as lumen said dedication and hard work will pay off eventually. As for the 'weird thing in dreams' try the ADA All Day Awareness technique it really helped me :)

I sometimes sleep with the TV on but i find it makes no difference. As for the herbs i think they can be helpful but in my experience only marginally mostly a placebo i think. Nothing beats manual effort!

You need to spend more time working on recall. No technique will work until around 2 dreams a night are remembered :) Maybe stop trying so hard as it can keep you awake, use a mantra or something

What time did you go to sleep? Sometimes you need to work out the ideal time for you. Most would recommend 5-6 hours of sleep before your attempt. They're dreams, there ment to be weird. I had a similar problem once where i suddenly couldnt move very well and so every time i ld'ed i 'expected' to find it hard to move. I thinkit was just a blip and it shouldnt happen again :)

I find it very hard to make things appear right before my eyes for some people its nearly possible. Most techniques involve expectation, for example, saying and knowing that behind the next door is 'whatever' and it usually is.
