Learned lucid dreamer, although had maybe 3 before I knew anything about them (3 in 50 years that is). Now have one or two a week without trying other than "intent".

A few months ago I dreamed my house was broken into, and my wife, daughter and I taken captive. They raped my young daughter. I am not a very emotional person, but in dreams have had very emotional episodes. I think for me more intense than most reality...more like when my dad died in real life...my most emotional moment in my life that I can recall. I have cried hard in dreams. Have also had intense fear and anger/revenge...

Normally the term 'meditation' sort of turns me off as I am not big into the Eastern philosophy I tend to associate with it.... I am more scientific in my approach to lucid dreaming, having learned via LaBerge. But the idea of 'quieting the mind' and shutting down the internal dialog is really great...

Absolutely! You just had a false awakening...very common. Many people do a reality check whenever awakening, as FAs are common

Read "Exploring the world of Lucid Dreaming" by LaBerge if you really want to LD. It works! Reality checks and WBTB I think yields best starting success.

Realizing you are dreaming

Last night I had an LD, and am now realizing an interesting phenomenon and wonder if others experience it. It starts to dawn on me that I might be dreaming. I look at the scene before me and a section of it darkens slightly and contracts slightly, then goes back to normal. I know it is a dream then....
