Re: What do forum members living outside of U.S.A. think about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton?

Of course Donald Trump will deny this and urge us to move on, but it's becoming increasingly evident that Russia hacked the US election in his favour. Despite the CIA's prudence to conceal their suspicions, Clinton supporters already had an inkling when emails from her campaign were leaked. Presiden...

Re: The Shocking Truth

Anaxagoras was an early example of contrarianism that provoked pre-Socratic zeitgeist indignation and social ostracism. Anaximenes, his predecessor, had already opined equally incredible heterodoxy---a quasi-scientific explanation of the world which was dangerous under Persian rule but may have part...

Re: Toepedia Debate

I don't agree with Daniel Dennett's eliminativism, but here is a quote from his book, CONSCIOUSNESS EXPLAINED, which everyone here---especially those who have erroneously invoked the flat/round Earth analogy to reinforce Campbell's credibility---should ponder on: 'Once upon a time, in about the midd...

Re: Malala and Terrorism

Allow me to take you to the Middle Ages, in particular the time of the Frankish armies, the Knights Templar, lord Raymond of Tripoli---who nearly went to war with King Guy of Lusignan and his wife Sibylla---and when the Kingdom of Jerusalem, established in the Levant by the First Crusade, was besieg...

Re: The Illusion of Free Will?

I think the reductio ad absurdum against both free will and the conflation between determinism and fatalism has been doubly emphasised here. Only an egotistical fool will continue to cling to such erroneous delusions assuming they've read the entire thread.

Re: The Illusion of Free Will?

I can't believe this poll now! It's a tie? Whoever voted 'Yes' recently is deluded and didn't bother checking how the thread progressed. It's conclusive: Not only is there no free will, there can never be such a thing. The reality is that nothing is making choices and you're simply spellbound by an ...

Re: The Shocking Truth

I'm going to illustrate here, with a possible scenario, how something thousands of light-years away, could trigger physical events here on Earth ... Imagine that SETI found evidence of intelligent extraterrestrial life from a signal 50,000 light-years away. Picture the radio-astronomers rejoicing an...

Re: Malala and Terrorism

The problems of Muslim triamphalism and intolerance are certainly not modern ones. It is true to say that modern Islamism learned a few tricks from European fascism, but when Muslim armies were stopped at the gates of Vienna in 1683, the world had witnessed a thousand years of jihad---which had spre...

Re: The Shocking Truth

Here's a deschainXIX point I'd like to revisit: To ask the question 'What does the universe really look like?' will beget the following response from a good philosopher, 'To whom?' There is no such thing as a true appearance about the world. An appearance, what something looks like, calls into quest...

Re: The Illusion of Free Will?

'Hume's fork: Either our actions are determined, in which case we are not responsible for them, or they are the result of random events, in which case we are not responsible for them.'
