Re: The hugging/kissing challenge

Nice work! If it was me I would employ the expectation principle. So as I said the words out loud I would expect someone to approach and hug me. Because if a slight part of you doubts the characters' positive reaction, then they will more likely stare at you or ignore you. It's a difficult thing to ...

Re: Are you open minded?

Very good points. I suppose if we were truly open minded we would have to be extremely flexible, nothing would ever be certain truth, and we would have to ditch our egos. Sounds hard to me. Being humble enough to admit that the world is greater than you. Yes! And our attempts to understand it requir...

Re: Why is There Something Rather Than Nothing?

What better topic of discussion can there be than the origin of everything? Then, I think, perhaps we can never know. Perhaps all the philosophy and the physics is futile. At some point, one explanation is just as believable as the next and we are too far away to remotely validate either. Then I get...

Re: The Fermi Paradox

Then there's this rather sobering theory: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/earth-insight/2014/mar/14/nasa-civilisation-irreversible-collapse-study-scientists Summary: NASA-funded study concludes "the process of rise-and-collapse is actually a recurrent cycle found throughout history"...

Are you open minded?

A lot of people reckon they are open minded. But in my experience, people are open minded to things that fit their worldview (naturally), but closed off to things that dont fit. They are entrenched in their views and suffer from confirmation bias. Myself included. To claim open mindedness, shouldnt ...

Oh also the sleepwalkers among us should make sure they aren't peeking at the card in the night without realizing :D

Re: A Lucid Dreaming Experiment

I like the thinking. But the odds are still 1 in 52 you'll get it right first time, so not really convincing enough to be meaningful, in my opinion. Because if 52 of us try this experiment just once, there is an excellent chance that one of us will successfully guess our card. Imagine if 1,000 of us...

Re: What's the meaning of this picture?

Nice work, Hagart! I like the idea of recreating your vision and seeing how others interpret it.

I'll be perfectly honest I saw a green sperm, exhausted from all its efforts and climbing onto a couch to have a rest....

Re: The Fermi Paradox

I'm convinced there is other intelligent life out there in the universe, on perhaps millions or billions of planets. It is too arrogant to think we're the only ones, especially given the vast numbers. The universe is massive beyond our wildest dreams.... perhaps it is even infinite. If it IS infinit...
