Video Game

Postby amersoma » 25 Jun 2012 12:27

How is a Video Game created by codes and functions? I am having THE hardest time wrapping my head around the idea that long strings of functions and codes, written in C++ and other computer languages, are able to create a video game... Can someone please describe to me how strings of codes are able to translate into a 3D environment in a video game?

I have a little experience in computer science, but am no means an expert. what i do know is that video games would be created from many different programs, including ones specifically created for object-orientation and graphics and such. And i think all the code would be split over various files to divide up the functions appropriately.

Yeah thats pretty much right. some game engines are specificly designed to conform to the laws of physics and stuff like that. oh by the way torakrubik i noticed you joined on june 29th. funny thats my birth day what a coincedence :)

All the data is converted into "samples" which is simply a number indicating the wave length. The samples are then converted into binary (1's and 0's) and these can be "burned" on a CD. It is stored in the same way morse works, but instead of . and _ there are burned spots and non-burned sport than can be read out in a CD player.

Basically, the images are drawn by mathematical functions, distorted and draped onto primitive models.
These images are drawn respectively to certain coordinates on the screen which are calculated by combining the way you view and the virtual, in-game coordinates.

Functions don't exist to actually execute things, but actually not to have to write the same code twice; you just put it in a function and the function is called twice instead of just writing the entire code twice.
This site is really helping me. I would like to express my thanks here, in my signature.
