This constantly happens. As soon as I start lucid dreaming, I completely forget to stabilize the dream and the lucidity lasts only a few seconds.
Plan what you will do in the dream step by step and play it in your mind a few times, especially before going to sleep. This way you would automatically do what you want to do as soon as you realise you are dreaming.
This is not a guaranteed method to work the first time you try, it may take some time.
