Have I experienced sleep paralysis?

Postby Thorpe » 03 Apr 2017 21:41

Hi everybody.

So I've tried something new lately (for me anyway), attempting to simply freeze my body still while trying to fall asleep. I sleep on my side, and after a while I start to feel one of my legs becomes very heavy on top of the other, difficult to move it. I thought this might be sleep paralysis, but I've heard that brings hypnogogic sensations with it, which I don't seem to experience.

Does anyone have a name for the feeling I'm experiencing?

Hi Thorpe. If it is just one leg, it is not sleep paralysis which would involve your entire body. I assume you are just reaching a place very close to falling asleep. I've had times where my body feels very heavy when I am getting very close to sleep.

No, typically what one leg does, the other will do also. If only one leg is responding, it is just the bodies way of saying, please adjust me so I don't go numb.
