Especially the hynogogic state where you can hear stuff like voices or loud banging (doors slamming, door bells ringing, dogs barking) Look up exploding head syndrome...
And all it takes is practice to become familiar with it and just LET IT HAPPEN.
And even if it doesn't lead to a lucid dream, become familiar with it and become experienced. Then the fear subsides, because it is no longer the unknown.
