Help with self awareness?

Postby Ikamon.13579LD » 05 Jul 2012 04:56

To this day Ive had four LD's and in every one they've only lasted a few seconds before the thought of me dreaming slowly evaporated over say… 2 minutes. I was then left witha normal dream. Ive tried setting a LDing intention and what Ive discovered is that it's almost as if when I realize I am dreaming I have an extreme lack of willpower. Two of the times I wasnt even able to tell my self to do a reality check. I was only lucky because of a clear giveaway. Even then I would stop myself whatever I was doing and consciously make myself do a reality check. Whenever it didnt work the first time I was immediately whipped back into a normal dream. Any suggestions other than setting a dream intention and building up vivid dreams with a dream journal?

Well, you're dropping back to a normal dream because you're losing awareness almost as soon as you gain it. Gaining a lucid awareness is one thing... retaining that lucid awareness and strengthening it is another. It's always a fine balancing act between enjoying the experience and not getting caught up too much into it while keeping your focus toward staying aware.

I agree with that but I barely have the self awareness to prolong or increased the lucidity. I need something outside the dream I can do like a way to excersise self awareness. Im currently trying to use more reality checks per day and to consciously be more observant and aware but it doesnt hurt to have a backup. Does anyone know any other techniques?

You need to remember to begin stabilizing the experience as soon as you can.
There's nothing you can really do in this physical reality to assist you. It just takes lots of time and lots of practice.

Well no, there is something you can do. Learn to meditate.
Learn to focus your mind towards a single goal.
Then... learn to hold that focus for extended periods of time.
