Does sleep paralysis to lucid dreaming really work?

So I keep seeing a lot of contradictions about sleep paralysis. Does it work? If so, do you just lay in bed completely still and wait for it? For how long? Are there side affects? Is it scary? :?: :| :?

I have tried but I've never been able to stay still long enough, it must take an amazing amount of willpower. Or else someone has a life-hack for this or something. The desire to move just becomes totally overwhelming. I'm also curious about this.

I've had sleep paralysis since I was less than 10, now near 40. It was terrifying until I figured out it was controllable. First recognize it, then manipulate it. I guess the scary part is relaxing, I often relapsed back into the paralysis as soon as I woke up. As soon as I gave up I fully woke up. Cool thing is you are so close to lucid dreaming. Just try to calm yourself if possible.

SP is not some that "works" as such, when you are in SP you are already more asleep that awake and pretty much already in the dream. It can be scary, is not dangerous and just accepting it if you are aware of it gives a high probability of getting into a lucid dream
