Fear of the dark is a major cause of insomnia

Postby lucidinthe sky » 09 Sep 2012 00:05

Just read an article that many adults have a fear of darkness which is major cause of insomnia. Thought it was interesting and worth sharing.
Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world? Morpheus

This is less obvious and it is just from my personal experience but it can work the other way around.

I have no trouble falling asleep but when I intentionally try to deprive myself of sleep my anxiety levels go through the roof.

As a result of the increased anxiety I become terrified of being alone in my dark room. Instead of losing sleep to a fear of the dark I develop a fear of the dark as a result of losing sleep.
