What exactly are you trying to do when you meditate?

There are two kinds of meditations: Active and Passive.

You're probably trying a passive meditation, whereby you focus upon one thing in an effort to clear your mind of all surface thoughts?

Try an active meditation instead. With an active meditation you focus upon creating a scene and running through that scene in as much vividness and realism as you can muster.

Both have the same end goals... but approach that goal differently.

If you're still bored after that, then you're seriously not "getting" what meditation is about.
If I had the time, I could sit meditating for hours... there's a special feeling about being alone with your consciousness.

Well, don't push it. :)
You'll come to enjoy the process that is "being alone with your consciousness" one day. It'll come when you need it to though.

Until then... just enjoy life.

Yeah I only meditate when I feel I need to, if I dont need to and I meditate I get to a point where I figure out what i need to do in "waking life" and I just think "Wtf am I doing I should be doing this..."

However when my thoughts start rascing throughout the day and I seriously cant concentrate on my study (studying 4 advanced maths papers at uni really demands your concentration) then I use meditation to simply slow things down so I can focus. It also lets me find myself, sometimes if you go about the daily routine for too long you forget what its like to be yourself, which is what I think Ryhan was referring to when he said being alone with your consciousness.

Remember nothing magical is going to happen when you meditiate, you arent going to get zapped into another dimension or anything ridiculous like that, in my opinion its a tool, a process, nothing more.

Actually, you just might get "zapped into another dimension"... it's called "Projection", and doing it consciously means learning meditation. :)
