It can help one with lucid dreaming as it can help one increase awareness in deep states of relaxation. I can think of 5 different forms thou of meditation which can help lucid dreaming.

1/ awareness meditations eg you can actually do awareness exercises while going about your daily life eg every hour.. look around you and focus on becoming aware of everything around you, question your reality.. is there anything strange you can see which isnt right? what can you see, hear, smell, taste, sense (you may want to shut your eyes for a moment while focusing on taste, smell and hearing). You can also do awareness meditation while in bed..eg just observe your breathing constantly and every few minutes make sure you well observe everything else you feel and around you (keep eyes shut thou if doing it in bed and doing this to try to get to the right state for WILD).

2/ Progressive body relaxation meditation .. can help one get relaxed enough faster to help have a WILD. If one isnt body relaxed enough, one wont go into a deep enough state for a WILD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_muscle_relaxation (what a crappy explaination on wiki.. anyway.. while laying down, eyes shut.. start with different parts of the face, jaw, eyes, shoulders arms, hands.. and work down the body tensing and relaxing each part.. till the whole body is relaxed (do this 2-3 times).

3/ Guided meditations. These can help teach you to go with the flow and let go (guided meditations are just ones where another takes one on a visualisation journey). You need to be able to let go of the mind some if you want to WILD. If you want to visualise yourself and WILD into certain dreams.. experience in using guided meditations can help.

4/ breathing or chanting yogi meditations which are used to induce LD (can take one into a WILD too) this is called Dream Yoga.. this can include rhythmic breathing eg one form of this is breathing in a certain number of counts, holding for half the amount, then breathing out the same number of seconds as you breathed in and then holding to half that time again.
The chanting (any chant can actually probably be used) eg breath in throu nose and think word "Say".. breath out throu mouth like a sigh and think the word "Hah" (or there is a couple of other words which can be used).

5/ Body energy raising meditation techniques.. this is a form of energy work in which visualisation (and often breathing too) is used to raise vibrational state.. this occultic technique is far more commonly used for astral projection but can have the spin off of triggering lucid dreaming (Ive personally found that regularly doing this makes me far more aware in my sleep) or can give more vivid intense dreams. "Pillar of Light meditation" is a chakra energy meditation. Its too complex to explain here but its in the book which is somewhere online called "Astral Projection, the out of body experience" by Denning and Phillips. I started spontanously having OBE spontanous experiences after 2 or 2 and a half weeks of doing that meditation nightly.
...

To work out which meditation(s) are right for you.. you need to work out how you wish to LD.. are you wanting to do it via WILD or are you hoping to trigger off a LD in which you become aware during your sleep.
The only thing to fear is the fear itself
