Fun trick to try while walking/whatever.

Postby Jack Reacher » 03 Aug 2014 08:50

Next time you find yourself walking along, whether to a store or whatever it is, try this. Assign either a "+" or a "-" to everything you see. So every minor detail, everything that you focus on, don't even just make the decision to decide whether you thought it was positive or negative, but simply visualize the symbol in its place. It should take you a split second to assign a symbol, and remember you are trying to cover your entire surroundings.

Ummm why? Your post is missing some pretty crucial information. You don't say why this is useful,
sounds pretty pointless weird and hard for no reason lol

Well I wanted you to try it first.

I will also point out the exercise is entirely contextual on the time and location that you put it to the test.

Everything is a symbol as it is and we're already judging it. My mood seems to determine the ratio of + to - but that's about the only thing I can figure out about this so far. It is in "off topic" so it isn't even about dreaming, right?

Maybe I am completely off, but that's what this exercise reminds me of: the daily exercises in 'A Course In Miracles' (I must admit I have only done the first 50 or so). That is, look at everything around you in a totally neutral way without any preconceived ideas about anything in your visual field, and without discrimination, that is, pay as much attention to a crack in the concrete, or a shadow, or that patch of grass, than you would to your child or your reflection in the mirror or that red sport car. (ACIM then directs to do the same with all the thoughts that arise in your mind, that is, witnessing them neutrally without judgment or analysis.)

Maybe assigning + and - to everything that we see, achieves the same result, that is, maybe it induces a realization that we instantly judge and assign meaning to everything we see based on all our past conditioning, what we've been taught, programming, memories, etc... Maybe it could possibly to see reality in a completely different way if we could erase all this conditioning and reprogram our mind.

All of perceived reality is based on assumption and emotion.
What is emotion anyway, and why do we have pre-conceived ideas? And what is 'mood'?
I like to pose questions instead of providing answers.

(Someone tell Btifuldreamer though. I don't want them to die from this. )
If we all lucid dreamed this world would be a better place.
