Lucid Dreamers and God

For those who wish to discuss the purely scientific aspects of sleep and dreams, including new research and future technologies.

Have you ever tried to communicate with God in the phase state (LD/OOBE/AP)?

Hagart's lucid dream.has more chances of being a revelation than Smith's written verbal diarrhoea. :-D

By the way, nesgirl, if you are referring to Stalin just know that he didn't commit his atrocities in the name of disbelief in God (how one could do this is beyond me). He did it in the name of his brand of Marxism. Another doctrine of a political nature. And for those who continue to use Stalin as some sort of argument against atheists, know this: Vladimir Putin, who is a devout member of the Russian Orthodox Church, has pretty much registered Stalin as one of their own in a posthumous fashion. And to show his great admiration for the former dictator, Putin even has pictures of him in the Kremlin with a halo around his head. So now Stalin is a religious or divine figure that Russians should look up too. The memory of Stalin can no longer be considered secular.

Some scientific discoveries will give birth to inventions that will either be used for good or ill. Sometimes both. But one thing is for sure. One cannot take back a discovery and science has done a lot to improve our lives. Without science, nesgirl, you would not be socialising online right now. Another point I'd like to make: Don't blame the inventor, blame the user...

A kitchen knife was made to be a utensil for the kitchen, not a murder weapon. Likewise, the intention behind hospitals is benign despite the fact that many mistakes are made and people die in them. But they have saved lives...

I'd also like to see an example of where unbelief, namely atheism, has been used to kill people. It does not make any sense to me. All I see is atheists merely pointing out the lack of evidence. They don't carry out crusades or jihads, my dear girl.

Erm... nesgirl...without science you could not have technology. Without computer science, for instance, you wouldn't have the Internet right now. You are fighting a losing battle in epistemology. :-D

Here is a Daniel Dennett quote from "Breaking The Spell":

"Mammals, for instance, are hosts to trillions of parasites. (Yes, right now, no matter how healthy and clean you are, there are trillions of parasites of thousands of different species inhabiting your gut, your blood, your skin, your hair, your mouth, and every other part of your body. They have been rapidly evolving to survive against the onslaught of your defences since the day you were born. Before a female can mature to reproductive age, her parasites evolve to fit her better than any glove. (Meanwhile, her immune system evolves to combat them, a standoff - if she is healthy- in an ongoing arms race.) If she gave birth to a clone, her parasites would leap to it and find themselves at home from the outset. They would be already optimised to their new surroundings. If instead she uses sexual reproduction to endow her offspring with a mixed set of genes (half from her mate), many of these genes - or, more directly, their products, in the offspring's internal defences - will be alien or criptic to the ship-jumping parasites. Instead of 'home sweet home,' the parasites will find themselvez in terra incognita. This gives the offspring a big head head start in the arms race."

With asexual reproduction or cloning as opposed to sex you give the game away to parasites who will "suss" you out in time. Sexual teproduction is better and there is a reason there are more of us sexuals. We survive better. :-)

Look, I'm not going to have an argument with you about evolutionary biology, we already did that in "Religion and Politics: Iraqi Crisis." By saying that Joey is a moron, are you ridiculing sexuality deliberately?
