Hemi Sync Review:
MetaMusic Meditation CDs

Hemi Sync is world famous for its binaural beats meditation CDs. It was created by the legendary out of body explorer, Dr Robert Monroe, and his team at The Monroe Institute. The technology is scientifically-based and clinically proven.

The following Hemi Sync review is based on my personal experience of the MetaMusic Collection; a range of meditation CDs that use binaural beats. These are CDs that use beta frequencies (for learning) through to theta frequencies (for lucid dreaming and other altered states of consciousness). In my view, these are worth exploring whether for meditation, deep relaxation or simple musical enjoyment.

The MetaMusic Collection

I love listening to binaural beats CDs. I listen to MetaMusic regularly for deep relaxation, profound meditation, better sleep and lucid dreaming.

Normally, it will take me 8-10 minutes to enter a state of meditation, but with Hemi Sync it takes about 2-3 minutes. Once immersed in this state, my inner voice becomes quiet and I am able to observe a peaceful train of thoughts that seems to arise directly from my subconscious. It can be very insightful. After a while you may slip directly into a dream state and achieve a lucid dream.

Each MetaMusic meditation CD is unique. For instance, Between Worlds features sounds of the rainforest which guide me on an inner journey to my favorite visualization spot. You will hear haunting instruments like the didgeridoo, flutes, mbira and indigenous chants. In isolation, the binaural beats occur as white noise but overlaid with music you will hardly notice the brainwave entrainment tones.

My favorite of all Hemi Sync meditation CDs is Inner Journey. It features ethereal sounds which create a deeply relaxing melodic flow to relieve stress, free my imagination and expand awareness through musical imagery. I like Inner Journey best because it has a real cosmic feel to it - like I'm traveling through the universe and into other dimensions.

In total, I have about a dozen of these binaural beats recording. Each offers a different mood and set of visualizations. My second favorite is probably Gaia - a deeply relaxing flute and guitar blend overlaying sounds of water. The Gaia CD is said to stimulate imagination and creativity and has certainly given me some very cool visualizations.

I highly recommend starting with these two meditation CDs (see images, right). However you can listen to samples on their website to see if the music "clicks" with you - I'm sure everyone has different tastes and Hemi Sync caters to many.
