Re: Malala and Terrorism

What acrobatics! What dexterity! :D You miss the point, Pilgrim. It's not okay that Thomas was a doubter; this is an instance of him failing and being rebuked by the savior, by whom he yet evades divine punishment. It's an instance of one of the disciples failing--comparable to Peter thrice claiming...

Re: Malala and Terrorism

So you're admitting that you're not among "the blessed"? :)

Re: The Shocking Truth

Oop, I posted five minutes after you and didn't see your post in time. :) I agree about democracy. The masses are in general docile and clueless and can't be trusted with too much power. The only problem with meritocracy is that people disagree on what makes a person qualified. Who decides the quali...

Re: Malala and Terrorism

Isn't the matter of accepting the Scripture on the basis of evidence itself abiblical, unchristian? Aren't you supposed to accept this without needing proof or rationalizations? The gospels are ripe with the theme of faith, which is belief without evidence. The case of Thomas demonstrates this most ...

Re: The Marriage Between Language and Instinct

Fascinating! This ties into the discussion on consciousness in "The Shocking Truth," particularly if we adopt the assumption that consciousness is basically semantic and syntactical. It definitely operates with the same basic rules and properties of language--definition, separation, catego...

Re: The Shocking Truth

It's remarkable how much more democratic Britain is to America. We've had state referendums, but never a country-wide direct decision. The framers of our constitution actually distrusted the public and wanted to avoid direct democracy at all costs, opting instead for a representative republic. And I...

Re: Mudvayne

I'm very cliche in my metal tastes. I like kORN, some of Marilyn Manson ("Antichrist Superstar" and "Holywood" are among some of the best albums ever made, in my opinion, but most of the rest of his music is garbage), and Slipknot. I'll give Mudvayne a listen.

Re: Malala and Terrorism

Is there something particular about the Quranic texts that make them historically untrustworthy in comparison to the Bible, Pilgrim? Perhaps you've already said this and I missed it. :P

Re: The Shocking Truth

Well, I’m certainly with you that people will fuck things up no matter what happens. We’re tribal in nature, and we tend toward nationalism, which inevitably produces war and atrocity. I haven’t been following the Brexit situation, as it doesn’t affect me as far as I can see, but from what I’ve seen...

Re: So the forum got updated, eh?

I'm not a fan of the hot-air balloon. It doesn't seem to catch the same mood the old design did. Still, I like the updated interface. It's more smooth and accessible.
