Indeed. The mind, whatever its nature and however much we debate about it, is undoubtedly a rollercoaster ride. 8-)

This is professor Lawrence Krauss's eloquent response to the recent allegations of sexual harassment which were broadcast by the digital media outlet Buzzfeed---the same admittedly error-prone Internet posse who now faces a couple of lawsuits for previously publishing the Trump dossier. (It might be relevant to mention that some of the individuals involved sued for defamation.)

The company---which is criticised for plagiarising its competitors---also covered the Kevin Spacey scandal. What do we make of this source of information which also hosts a web series about mysteries, ghost hunting and the supernatural?

Perhaps there is a personal and professional vendetta against a renowned physicalist ... or the professor is lying. I'm going to reserve judgement until more evidence comes in.

Is there a shocking truth behind this story?

Modal realism, a plethora of realities proffer, is discussed in this brilliant thread:

I've either exposited ingenious ratiocinations in a ridiculous manner or the ratiocinations exhibited here are ridiculous. Which one is it? What do you disagree with? :)

I'm also reading Jim Holt's Why Does the World Exist?. Holt's intellectual approach employs metaphysics, aetiology and cosmology with a touch of humour. His 'quick proof that there must be something rather than nothing, for modern people who lead busy lives' is as follows:

'Suppose there were nothing. Then there would be no laws; for laws, after all, are something. If there were no laws, then everything would be permitted. If everything were permitted, then nothing would be forbidden. So if there were nothing, nothing would be forbidden. Thus nothing is self-forbidding. Therefore, there must be something. QED.'

Yes. The same argument that Prof. Lawrence Krauss made in his A Universe From Nothing as he described the moment when we discovered space appears to be flat in all directions and all the positive and negative energies in the universe appear to add up to zero. As Krauss reminds us, 'There is something because nothing is a highly unstable and improbable state on a quantum level.'

Jim Holt is in the same camp, as is Dawkins and Hitchens.

A philosophical element mentioned in this book, which could very well be relevant to this topic, is Plato's mathematical entities (Max Tegmark territory) which the ancient philosopher claimed were more real than the world of appearances for having the characteristics of timelessness and changelessness.

Could Plato have been onto a major philosophical breakthrough that could potentially hold the key to this mystery? As Holt points out, mathematical entities and the concept of infinity are not material things, but they don't seem to be mental either as the universe can be mathematically described.

'What breathes fire into the equations?' was the question Einstein reflected on. This is a book for atheists, agnostics and theists alike! 8-)
