Am I lucid dreaming?

Postby shinyisgood » 20 May 2018 17:33

Hello, I'm Shinyisgood. I'm 16, and I've been able to do this since I was 10 or so. I was wondering whether I lucid dream or not. I've never practiced Lucid dreaming ever in my life, but often in my dreams I can create a narrative that I want to happen, and if I find something that doesn't make sense in a dream, I'll be like "wait, that makes no sense" and I'll go back a few moments and redo the scene, but this time, making sense. Sometimes it takes a few minutes of thinking before I come up with an idea, but then when I come up with a good idea I slip back into the dream. I like playing a character or a self-insert character that's basically me in a media I've enjoyed a large part of, trying to make my character make sense on how I got there or what I'd actually know when I got there. 3 ones I can recall off the top of my head are a Pokemon from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, a gem from Steven Universe, and a contestant from Battle for BFDI. My dreams feel like I roleplay a character that I get immersed into, and I don't want to break the fourth wall unless necessary if my dream tracks off course of a character not making sense on how they should act, more than the setting.

I was just wondering this was lucid dreaming or not, as I never say "Hey this is a dream", but I know when I'm dreaming or not, even if I don't really act against where the dream is going or not.

It sounds like a type of lucid dreaming to me. I am usually like, "This is a dream!" Either mentally or out loud. But it sounds like you realize its a dream by noticing something different from waking life. Thats a DILD (dream initiated lucid dream). and then you use dream control like becoming a character you want to, and going into different scenes. Even if you don't use dream control, and just go with the flow, you're still lucid dreaming, if you know its a dream.
