Forum Maintenance

Postby lucid_pancake » 26 Sep 2018 05:40

Sorry I haven't been active here much.

But I have recently started some maintenance on the forum and the idea is that this will be on-going. Here's a list of what's been done, in progress or pending:

1. Upgraded to PHP7 (site should be faster)

2. Pruned over 2000 archived spam and junk threads from past 7 years

3. Starting to create "Is This a Lucid Dream", "Dreaming of Lucid Dreaming" Mega Threads and made them Sticky (hundreds of beginner threads on these topics! May as well merge them all together for ease of reference and to prevent further duplication).

4. Thinking about starting to add a hint of the subject to the Title of un-named dreams in the Share Your Dreams sub-forums. So that new visitors browsing through the archive can scan for dreams they might like to read, rather than randomly clicking through thousands of posts all named "My first lucid dream". It's a great dream library but hard to navigate right now.

5. Removed Dipak (the mad Indian gentleman sitting in the corner babbling). Initially I thought he was using the forum as his legit dream diary so I was just going to let them stay, but after searching I realised the same content has been spammed all throughout the net. So there's no sense duplicating it here as well.

Thoughts, ideas etc welcome!

Nice work, thanks for the update. I was never sure whether to remove Dipak's posts as they were relevant individually, but i never bothered reading them and realising the content was repeated... :D

@torakrubik: Yeah, couldn't make my mind up whether they were the spiritual ramblings of a mad genius, the work of a highly intelligent spambot - or something else entirely. I read a few in depth and still can't decide.

He's actually on YouTube and seems (comparatively) sane (
Claims to have written a bunch of books in Bengali too (

But spamming it to every nook and cranny of the web isn't on, so I'm glad he's been flushed down the toilet here at least.

@rodrizzx: Thanks brother

I am really hoping to make a list of episodes, cartoons, or clips that have lucid dreaming references. Waking Life and Vanilla Sky are no longer the only things that have lucid dreaming in them anymore. I know that some users are better at learning visually than by words, and I am thinking if they can see or play any of these references, it would help them.

For example:
This is the Nerd of Oz from Robot Chicken, a parody off of the Wizard of Oz. The big difference is a Nerd manages to induce the MILD technique while he is in Oz (which Oz as we all know, is a dream world). Once he starts lucid dreaming, the whole skit becomes hilarious.

I have a huge list in mind I can gather, but it will take time. I can just start off with that episode. Some of the lucid dreaming clips do have specific superpowers in them that are impossible in a lucid dream. If users just realize those parts of the lucid dream were just a multimedia add on and cannot really happen, they are fun to watch.
An example of lucid dreaming: (1:46 Is that me or is this me? "Am I still dreaming?") Simpsons example:

Awesome, lucide :) Feel free to stick a thread up and over time we can turn it into an article (where the links can actually be clicked) on the main site.
