is it possible to lucid dream without waking up at 3 in the morning. like going straight to lucid dreaming when you fall asleep.

I happen to have done this on my last lucid dream, but it was the first time in probably 200 attempts. Who knows if and when it will happen again, but it is possible. It was completely awsome, no waiting or mental gymnastics. Also my best LD yet. If you figure out the secret to doing this, please let me know.
Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world? Morpheus

I think you're talking about WILD here, but that technique is more preferable after 4.5 - 5 hours since your still sleepy.

Try WILD when you go to sleep.
Hope can do you many things, shed light in the darkness and grant you even the most complicated wishes, but you still lack something there, WILL.

You can go into a "lucid dream" from any point during the day if you know how to meditate. :)

Most people call it a WILD... but it's really just "Phasing". Phasing is a technique that Monroe figured out.
