Hypnagogia

Postby lestrahenry » 11 Apr 2017 01:53

Hi Folks,
I had a very puzzling experience.....After having an early cup of tea and a shake { light food}, I went back to bed. It was about 6:30 am so I put on my night mask and tried to fall back to sleep as I was very tired. Then I started meditating and for the first time I began seeing hypnagogic images. This went on for a long while, changing from mountain scenery to people and things, then it stopped at one scene. I am awake so I ask my self "what is this?" I did not get sleep paralysis and I am awake. I decide if I am dreaming I must do a reality check...I look for my hands and body but there are none. Then another scene starts and I have a body. Can you explain what happened. Thank you.

You just performed what is called the Wake Induced Lucid Dream (WILD) technique, and ending up as a part of that one scene is what I like to call "phasing" into a lucid dream. When inducing the WILD technique, you don't necessarily have to enter SP in order to consciously enter a lucid dream. During meditation, it is also possible and usually a lot faster to induce the WILD technique.
An example of lucid dreaming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW7ps_VSPkg (1:46 Is that me or is this me? "Am I still dreaming?") Simpsons example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3X1n5Yny3g
