Charles Morley: NILDs

Postby Summerlander » 05 Jun 2018 16:55

Charlie Morley is doing a great job in urging people to recognise the opportunities presented by nightmares when they occur ...

There is also such a thing as nightmare-initiated lucid dreams (NILDs).

NILDs are essentially dream-initiated lucid dreams (DILDs) where the trigger for lucidity---or dream cue---is an unpleasant or terrifying situation. That would make NILD a subcategory if we must distinctly define the way lucid dreams are induced.

I have done this before where I've said to myself that if unpleasant events are perceived I must perform a reality check or assume I'm dreaming straight away.

The really terrifying situations are more likely to be dreams. The prep for NILDs is the same for DILDs with the aforementioned caveat that nightmarish events are identified as dream signs.

So you would still be helping yourself by recording and getting to know your dreams besides getting into the habit of checking reality.
"Empty cognizance of one taste, suffused with knowing, is your unmistaken nature, the uncontrived original state. when not altering what is, allow it to be as it is, and the awakened state is right now spontaneously present."

Hi! I know this was posted a while ago, but just checking. I’ve had several DILDS until now, and if I understand you correctly some of them were actually NILDS. My first ever lucid dream started as a non-lucid dream where I got attacked by a cougar and during the attack realised that hm, this is weird, it must be a dream.. when you say that one shall record and get to know ones dreams, what do you mean besides a dream journal? Thank you for your explanation :)

record them in any way you want, journals or audio and them go read them or listen to them before sleeping and tell yourself if they occur again you will check to see if you are dreaming
Who are you I asked, the reply "dont be silly, we are your daughers" many years before they were born

Thank you! I haven’t been reading them before bed to visualise myself becoming lucid in the next similar situation, so I’ll try it :) thanks!

I don't see DILD and NILD being any different, in fact, check the definition of nightmare, it's still a dream so it's DILD still, an easy way to do so, because it's so easy to see it's not waking life, but just as easy as seeing the bizarre things a usual dream has.

BTW Off-Toppic:
Have you had what I would call a LDIN? (Lucid Dream Induced Nightmare)

I wouldn't call that what I had a couple days ago, but still kinda intriguing, I was building a Dojo to train whenever I want to, then washed my face on the fountain outside making everything vivid again, went to the door next to my Dojo, it was a classroom with a few children and a teacher where I threw my Sports Mp3, for them to have it. But the last door seemed to me like a warehouse, a hallway with tons of things pilled on the right side, a wall on the other side, and close to the door there was a DC classifiying stuff. Once here I asked the dream directly without giving the usual time for the dreamscape to shift, shook, vibrate or whatever you wanna call it. Dream! What do you want me to do now?
It replied immediately with: "What I want you to do now"? As I felt a huge tension build up like an aura arround me(just like that hevyness feel of nightmares), the DC was still working and as he did so, he was moving his lips to the Dream's words, the hallway went dark and a big humanoid figure started stepping towards me, increasing that heavyness feeling, even though I wasn't feeling fear, I didn't even move a step backwards, I just stayed still, focusing on the figure (it looked like this

) trying to distinguiss it, but when it got too close I awoke.

I interpreted it as the Dream waking me up to remember the whole thing We, together built up and note it into my DJ.
What do you think about it?
Have you ever swam with sharks? walked beside an elephant or a bear? Talked to yourself, or to your reflection in a mirror? jumped onto a black hole? Timetraveled?
Then what are you waiting for?
