Is it purely experimental? Actually, a recent review of functional MRI studies shows that subliminal stimuli activate specific regions of the brain despite participants being unaware. Visual stimuli were flashed in rapid-fire mode, while audio stimuli was played below audible volumes, masked by other sounds, or played backwards.

Lucid Dreaming Subliminal Video: Part One
Watch the following video with sound and follow all the instructions as best you can. This video uses Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and hypnosis to help program your mind for a lucid dream tonight.
As the instructions suggest, you will do better if you can truly visualize and merge the feeling of being comfortably asleep in bed, with being conscious, active and highly self aware in a lucid dream.
